- While I hate to throw a damper on your "Bash the Clueless Newbie" game, I have
- received THREE solutions for the problem that I wrote about. They came from
- some very polite fellows who actually *paid attention* to what I was trying to
- ask for, and offered *constructive* solutions rather than try to cloud the
- issue with irrelevancies.
-
- The solutions involve 2 programs that strip the unwanted characters from the
- files AFTER they have been captured and saved, and 1 script for VLT that filters
- the characters out DURING the capture.
-
- The programs that work on existing files are:
-
- Estrip - this filters out ESCAPE sequences only. I don't know where it can be
- found and my uuencoded mail is gone. (It's CLI based)
-
- StripANSI - this filters out ALL ANSI characters and is extremely versatile in
- that you can CHOOSE which to leave in or take out. It can be found
- on FISH 581 and includes C source. (CLI and GUI versions exist)
-
- I have not yet tried the VLT script because I don't know how to work with
- scripts yet, but it was nice to hear that my question inspired someone to
- write such a beast, and as soon as I can figure out what to do with it, and
- where to type it in, I will be adding it to a function key in VLT (At least
- that's what he said to do with it... :>)
-
- See, I *KNEW* it could be done, so how "clueless" is that? Hmmm??? ;>
-
- Thank you all!
