-
- Yes. I do this all the time to switch between HAM pictures and an
- editor on Workbench. Switching between two screens is much faster
- than any mouse-driven operation to double-click on an icon or
- drag a window. Time-and-motion people would understand this. Hell,
- I found it a pain just to switch between a text editor and VLT
- doing file maintenance on a BBS. The sequence to delete a file was
-
- snap filename from text editor (C=-mouse)
- switch to VLT (C=-m)
- paste filename (C=-s)
- hit Enter
- switch to text editor (C=-m)
-
- But can you imagine doing even that in OS/2 with MicroEMACS and
- TE/2? Fortunately, on the Amiga it's possible to write an ARexx
- script that will handle it all with one or two keystrokes.
- Significant if you're deleting more than one or two files.
-
- It also saves memory. Imagine all the memory that would be wasted
- using SMART_REFRESH on a text editor in 256 color mode.

-
- They are not "the saviour" of the Amiga, but they are an integral
- part of the Amiga, that could not be done away with without
- annoying a lot of people.
