  18. Alabama recently (last 2 years) began requiring SSN's for all students
  19. entering school. No SSN, no school.

  21. What's even worse, is they simply REFUSE to accept the number by itself, they
  22. require the actual SSA-issued card. My sister was a week late starting school
  23. because they wouldn't let her in the doors without a SSA-issue card. It
  24. took a week to get a new one made, we had lost the original from when she
  25. was born.

  28. After moving here to utah, my primary school sent home 3 forms
  29. one for each child in that school asking for SSN. After sending a
  30. reply letter stating my reasons for NOT providing the numbers
  31. I went a spoke with the clerk about how it was received.

  33. She said, it was okay, but cause more clerical work to generate
  34. a new number. As they knew that each child already had a number
  35. the SSN became the default. I've been trying for the last year,
  36. since becoming familiar with the SSN problem, of shielding my
  37. kids numbers.

  39. [Moderator's Note:  What do they do if parents refuse to give the
  40. SSN?  It seems to me the best way for parents who want teach their kids
  41. on their own to get around all the legal requirements that one must go
  42. through in order not to send kids to school. ._dennis ]

  44. PS Utah also requires SSN for drivers licences  :-(
