- Back in the 1890's the goverment was _very_ actively involved in the steel and
- rail business. A legislator who wanted some money would simply propose
- legislation adverse to a railroad, and then the railroad would bribe the
- legislator into unproposing the bill. The trusts of the 1890's were just
- as much a result of purchased legislators as purchased stock.

- when Andrew Carnegie could afford to enhance the culture of America by
- building music halls. There was a time when Commodore Vanderbuilt could
- improve the education of America by building Vanderbuilt university.
