- You do not have to reinstall MS Windows in order to grab a file from the
- installation disks. Here's what to do:
-
- 1. Find the program "expand.exe" - it's on one of the installation disks.
- 2. For convenience, copy the program to your main win directory.
- 3. Find the file, "winfile.ex_" on one of the installation disks and leave
- this disk in your drive.
- 4. Run expand.exe from the DOS prompt (or you can create a PIF, as I have,
- and run it as a regular DOS program).
- 5. Assuming that your installation disk is drive B and your main win
- directory is called "windows" and is on drive C, the syntax is: expand
- b:\winfile.ex_ c:\windows\winfile.exe.
- 6. If you just invoke the "expand" command (without any parameters), you'll
- get a helpful syntax message.
