- I'm using Photostyler (which came with my scanner) now published by
- Aldus. Its a very interesting program, but it is slow (on a 33Mz 486)
- and is geared towards grey scale/colour work. I work mostly with line
- drawings and Photostyler can't edit B&W, so I scan in PS, then clean
- up the scan in a paint package, then convert the drawing to vector
- format and edit again -- what a pain, but the output is nice.
-
- The other "high end" program (which also can't edit B&W as far as I
- know) is Micrografx Picture Publisher. A step down from that is Zsoft's
- Publisher's Painbrush. These all come with various scanner drivers.
-
- Zsoft also puts out PhotoFinish which is a lower-end version of Pub.
- Painbrush. I don't know much about the Zsoft products, but it is my
- understanding they don't allow editing in B&W.
-
- The old PC Paintbrush 4+ would have served my needs better (scanning and
- clean-up in one program), but it is not a windows program, and I could
- never get it to run under windows (I do know people who do run it under
- windows quite successfully though). PC Paintbrush 5+ (published by Zsoft)
- is out now, and if you don't need OLE and clipboard support, it or 4+ may
- be your best bet.
