  13. We have just placed the first (beta) release of the VMS gopher V1.1 client
  14. software in the /pub/gopher/incoming directory on boombox.micro.umn.edu,
  15. in the file gopher1.1v.tar.Z.

  17. This VMS gopher client was ported from the Unix gopher V1.1 client by
  18. JQ Johnson <jqj@phloem.uoregon.edu> and Earl Fogel <fogel@jester.usask.ca>.
  19. It works with the UCX, Multinet and Wollongong versions of TCP/IP for VMS.

  22. Making the VMS Gopher Client
  23. ----------------------------

  25. Makefiles are provided in the gopher & object directories for those of
  26. you with a VMS MAKE utility, and compile.com and link.com files are
  27. provided for those who do not.

  29. To make the VMS gopher client, edit conf.h to reflect your local environment.
  30.  
  31. If you are using MAKE, edit the makefiles to specify your TCPVERSION (UCX,
  32. MULTINET, or WOLLONGONG).  Run MAKE in the object directory first, then
  33. in the gopher directory.

  35. If you are not using MAKE, the TCP version is specified on the
  36. compile.com & link.com command lines (eg. "@COMPILE UCX").  Execute the
  37. compile.com and link.com procedures in the object directory first, then
  38. do the ones in the gopher directory.

  41. Known Problems
  42. --------------

  44.  - sounds are not supported on VMS
  45.  - images are not transfered properly on UCX
  46.  - interrupts (^C and ^Y) are not handled properly
  47.  
  48. Please let us know if you find other problems, or if you fix any of
  49. these ones.
