- I was going through the medieval hocus-pocus ritual of demagnetizing tape heads
- and feeling as usual incredibly silly doing it... it's like waving a magic wand
- or something... and you're supposed to BACK OFF in a straight line so all the
- little ions or whatsis-creatures line up in straight battle order, right? then
- I realized I had this zoo of mind-boggling expertise here on the net to explain
- what in tarnation this is all about: so am I doing it right?? I make three
- "passes" in the vicinity of the tape head and then back off as the crow flies.
- PLEASE somebody, explicate this arcane oddity for me.

- Malbuff: Just wanted to let you know that I discovered yesterday that I
- am absolutely nuts about Bob Mould, namely _Black Sheets of Rain_ (is that what
- it's called?). I hadn't heard him in a long time since I had long ago
- decided I didn't like him... (I originally heard him on a boom box, which cut
- down the magnificent guitar-blast effect, but that's still no excuse). My
- husband put it on without telling me what it was and I thought it was
- tremendous. My favorite was _Hanging Tree_ . I hope this disclosure will
- permit me to rise at least 1-1/2 notches in your estimation.
