  15. It's been a rough week. My E-Mail address has changed from Massachusetts
  16. twice, then to Ohio, and now it's North Carolina. The only bummer with
  17. this new system is that I can no longer remain the Chrome-Plated Megaphone
  18. of Destiny (sorry Frank). This mailer won't let me change my personal
  19. name! 8( Oh well... And don't let the address name fool ya, I still don't
  20. dance (unless I'm on the better half of a case). Anyways, here's my OMC:

  22. I've been packing up my stuff to get ready for the big move next week. I
  23. was boxing up my CDs and there was a little space left in the last box. I
  24. didn't want them rattling around cracking their jewel boxes, so I had to go
  25. out and buy some more to fill up the space. 8) Here's what I picked up:

  27. Spin Doctors: _Homebelly Groove Live_
  28.         More of the same from the Spins. If you like any of their other
  29. stuff, than this won't hold many surprises for you. Don't get me wrong,
  30. they're good, but there's not as much variety in their style as the other
  31. HORDE bands like Phish or Blues Traveller. 7 of the songs were recorded
  32. back in 1990. Of these 7, 4 were previously released on the 1990 EP _Up
  33. For Grabs_. An additional 3 songs are from this past summer's tour.

  35. Steve Coleman: _Rhythm in Mind_
  36.         Beer talked about this one a while back. Steve leaves Funk aside to
  37. do some more traditional jazz. The band includes Steve, Von Freeman, Kenny
  38. Wheeler, Kevin Eubanks, Tommy Flanagan, Dave Holland, Ed Blackwell, and
  39. Marvin Smith. Top notch performances all around.

  41. Tom Waits: _Frank's Wild Years_
  42.            _Bone Machine_
  43.         With all the recent discussion of Waits I decided to give some of
  44. his stuff a try. I picked up _Frank's Wild Years_ and put it in my car CD
  45. player as I went to do some other errands. I was digging it so much that
  46. when I went to Lechmere I noticed that they were having a 25% off CDs sale
  47. and picked up _Bone Machine_ too. He's definitely a very twisted
  48. individual, but I like it. 8) I was happy to see that Mark Ribot plays on
  49. a couple of the cuts on _Bone Machine_. I really liked his _Rootless
  50. Cosmopolitans_ album and have been looking for more of his work. Les
  51. Claypool of Primus also puts in an appearance, reciprocating for Tom's
  52. work on "Tommy the Cat".

  54. Steve Hackett: _Voyage of the Acolyte_
  55.         This was a hesitant purchase. I loved his work with Genesis, but the
  56. only other solo album I've heard by him was _Cured_ which I truly despised.
  57. I figured I'd go for one of his early effort and I was rewarded. This was
  58. recorded in 1975 when he was still a member of Genesis and as such, is very
  59. close to the Genesis music of that time. Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins
  60. appear throughout. The first cut has bits that remind me of Rick Wakeman's
  61. _Six Wives of Henry VIII_.
