- Free improvisation means that you play with nothing planned in advance.
- Often improvisation is based on a form, in terms of number of measures,
- keys, and chord progession. You know the 12 bar blues.

- In free improvisation, nothing is given in advance. It is not so much
- that there is no form, but that the form comes freely. i.e. You might
- go into G minor, but nobody planned to, and the bass player is free to
- be in another key if desired. You are free to solo, or play background,
- or shift roles whenever you want.
