- Although I didn't expect Clinton to say that he likes the Dead Kennedy's (
- especially after viewing the sappy bio-video shown at the democratic
- convention), my gut is wrenching over his latest musical likes. Kenny G?! Oh
- please!! My hunch (and hope) is that he said one of those dumb politician
- things during the interview to collectively kiss mainstream America's ass. (
- I didn't hear the NPR feature.) If not, this situation has scarey
- implications for his ability to use sound judgement. But then again, who
- does Ross Perot like? Tex Ritter? Porter Wagner? Freddy Fender? I suppose it
- could be worse.
-
- I'm in hearty agreement regarding the need to send Bill tapes with some
- Parker, Davis, Hawkins, Coltrane, Monk, Holiday, Bill Evans, Bruford, Howe,
- and other greats on them. Good luck getting a cassette past the Secret
- Service. (They would probably dismantle it thinking it was a bomb. Besides,
- they probably like Kenny G.) If nothing else, we should at least consider
- sending him a copy of Oliver Nelson's _Blues and the Abstract Truth_ or
- Yes' _Tales From Topographic Oceans_ on CD.
-
- If his "tastes" in music are any indicator of his decision making ability,
- God help us all! My above comments concerning the Dead Kennedy's are in no
- way a meant to put them on the same scale with the other artists I've
- mentioned. (Although, I confess that I sometimes like the Dead Kennedy's.)
- BTW, attributing musical taste to age is, to say the least, juvenile.
