  14. [Note:  I am cross-posting this to the included groups because often
  15. the sorts of postings which would go to ba.helping-hand are showing up
  16. in these groups, particularly postings where someone is giving something
  17. away.]

  19. This is a call for discussion regarding the formation of a new group,
  20. ba.helping-hand.
  21.  
  22. Many people who have access to the net know people who are in need.
  23. On the other hand, many people who have access to the net are themselves
  24. more fortunate, and often have items or services which they would like
  25. to see given to a good home, or put to good use.
  26.  
  27. I have personally been involved in posting endeavors which have
  28. resulted in people truly in need of an item or service being matched
  29. up with someone who has just such an item or service.  Most recently I
  30. saw this when I attempted to find a bed for a teenage boy who had just
  31. moved, with his single mom, and who had nothing to sleep on.  The
  32. response was immediate, and generous, and as a result this deserving
  33. teen will no longer have to drag himself into school after a poor
  34. night's sleep on the floor, while a woman who is moving, and finds
  35. herself with an extra bed which she was hoping to donate to a worthy
  36. cause, now has a good and appreciative home for the bed.

  38. I believe this is an obvious, and perfect, use of the net, and I can
  39. easily see this group becoming a matching service for both donations
  40. and exchanges of needs and items/services.

  42. Given the potential for an overwhelmingly high signal to noise ratio, it
  43. should probably be moderated.

  45. I welcome discussion regarding the formation of ba.helping-hand.
