  20.     It sounds to me like your boyfriend is taking you for granted.
  21. Most people will take you for granted if you let them. He has been
  22. letting you do most of the work, and now that you suggest that he
  23. should do his share, he naturally resists.

  25.     First, he hides you from his parents. It is usually a bad sign when
  26. he won't acknowledge you to others. Then he has the bad taste to
  27. criticize your Christmas gift. It sounds like he felt guilty that you
  28. had made a fuss over him when, clearly, he hadn't.

  30.     Never take seriously any argument that is based on 'what guys do'.
  31. First off, what other people do is irrelevant. The only thing that
  32. matters is what the two of you want. Second, anonomous 'guys' are a
  33. convenient way to pass off bogus philosophies as facts of life.  His
  34. argument seems to be that since he will grow up to be a couch that
  35. burps, he shouldn't have to act like your boyfriend now. Would you say
  36. 'I will be old some day, so why should I even bother to try to look
  37. attractive?'.

  39.     If he was trying hard, and wasn't doing a good job (he had two left
  40. feet, his taste was horrible, etc), then it would be petty to be critical.
  41. But you are just asking him to make an effort. If he is going to be your
  42. boyfriend, then he should expect to put some effort into it, just as 
  43. you expect that as his girlfriend that you should put some effort into
  44. it. If he can't see that, he is never going to be worth much. Let him
  45. know that you expect something out of him.
