- it has been a while since i have read all my sporting books but i do
- believe that, at least on the west coast, the gene pools of salmon and
- trout are suffering greatly from the usual problems of loss of habitat,
- pollution, overfishing, and the like. most major steelhead runs in northern
- california and oregon and washington have dwindled greatly. with these
- decreasing numbers there is a great certainty that the gene pools of these
- species are suffering. sorry i can't be more specific but it's been
- a few years since i have studied any of this closely. basic form of thinking
- about it is, if there is a way for us humans to destroy it, we'll somehow
- find a way. how depressing.
