- In my hippie days of the late 60's and early 70's, blotter acid was
- rumored to be ok but rumor had it that anything in pill or especially
- capsule form was suspect. Strychnine was rumored to be the leading LSD
- adulterate. There used to be a column in those days that came out in
- such newspapers as the Brekeley Barb. People would send in anonymous
- drugs to be tested and the results would be printed. So you knew to stay
- away from the "yellow Submarine Acid" in the yellow orange barrel shaped
- pills, ect. It would be interesting to know if they ever did find
- Strychnine. I wouldn't be surprised.
-
- Strychnine is also the poison of choice amongst southern snake handling
- cults. These people handles snakes because of an interperetation of a
- verse in the 16th chapter of Mark. The same chapter speaks of Xians
- surviving poisons because of their faith, and at some snake handling
- meetings, some participants indulge in "Salvation Cocktails".
- Strychnine is the traditional content of the cocktail. Someplace
- around here in a box of clippings I have at least two reports of deaths
- from worshippers who overdid it.
