  36. Well since the vast majority of people take drugs everyday the problem
  37. would seem to me to be that of convincing Americans that some of the drugs
  38. which are currently illegal are not as harmful as they believe, or in some
  39. cases harmless or even beneficial. This is *not* an easy task. Given the
  40. current state of hysteria the only people who will believe this are long
  41. time users of these drugs who *are* the proof and few people will believe
  42. them. I was recently told by the best known psychiatrist in Houston, TX
  43. that it is *not* unusual for people two go insane by trying LSD one time.
  44. This is the accepted medical wisdom. He also told me that Marijuana was
  45. very harmful and could make you less intelligent. I'm sure he honestly
  46. believes this and it does no good to call everyone who disagrees with your
  47. position on drug legalization stupid or conspirators of some kind. These
  48. are good honest people. Subtle but constant persuasion is the best. Point
  49. out the counter example, gently educate people to the great literature of
  50. psychedelic mysticism from Aldous Huxley, William Blake yes even Leary can
  51. help. Don't give up but realize that things are not going to change right
  52. away. Pushing too hard always has the opposite effect from what the pusher
  53. is trying to achieve and the truth has a way of somehow coming out.
