- False. All the clove cigarettes I have ever seen are (strong) tobacco
- with cloves and/or clove oil added as flavoring.
-
- : * Cloves make your lungs bleed
-
- Sure can, if you smoke enough. That's not the most serious thing, though;
- see below.
-
- : * The resin in cloves crystallizes in your lungs
-
- False. This is a typical error of over-concreteness, along the lines of
- "LSD crystallises in your spinal fluid and then dissolves later giving
- you a flashback." (Which is totally false, but there seems to be something
- compelling about the simplicity of this sort of explanation. Biological
- systems are a lot more complex and subtle than that, most of the time.)
- Let it suffice that clove oil contains analgesic components, helping you
- not feel what would normally make you cough like hell, and is also mildly
- corrosive -- drop some on a piece of paper some time and watch it slowly
- corrode the paper over the next month.

- : Also, What's the deal with cigarette classification? The Djarum unfiltered
- : I used to like were class B, the Sampoerna X-tra filters I smoke now are
- : class A.
-
- I'm not sure, but I think "class A" means filtered, "class B" unfiltered.
- Does it really matter?
-
- I have seen some reports that clove cigarettes appear to be associated with
- emphysema and other forms of lung degeneration to an unusual degree. I don't
- have journal references, so I'd normally keep my mouth shut, but I have one
- more data point:
-
- I was diagnosed with a mild (early) case of emphysema at age 30, which is
- extraordinarily young even for a heavy smoker. I smoked cigarettes for about
- 8 years, clove cigarettes for 4 of those 8. It would be quite unusual for
- any signs of lung damage to show up that fast in a smoker of ordinary cigs,
- even the half pack of unfiltered straights I used to smoke.
-
- I would advise you to seriously consider chucking the habit ASAP.
-
- : No comment on why I learned how to inhale smoke :)
-
- Yeah, me too, which is why you're at greater risk because you are likely to
- hold the smoke. Weigh the benefits -- would you really want to have to
- quit smoking pot because your lungs were trashed and you could no longer
- risk _any_ further smoke damage?
