- >Does anyone know if taking niacin results...
-
- I don't know any _real_ details about what niacin does to help you relax,
- but I recall hearing somewhere that it does something which effects the
- same receptors as diazapam (sp? valium). Probably best to ask over in
- alt.psychoactives.
-
- Before anyone out there runs off and ODs on niacin, large quantities can
- mess up your liver chemisty, and won't buy you any increase in the
- tranquilizing effect. To relax 500 mg is plenty. It may cause you to
- feel flushed and have tingling sensations in your extremities. It's very
- acidic, if you take it on an empty stomach you may want to follow it with
- an antacid about 20 minutes later.
-
- If you want to use it to help reduce your blood cholestorol you should
- talk to a doctor (Doctors _do_ recommend it for this purpose).
