  24.     I have trouble with any formula for Horse Power based on ET.
  25.     Surely, it must be a minimum number.  After all, how many of us
  26.     have "perfect traction".  Let me make a few "strange" examples...

  28.     Suppose some funny car winds it up, lets fly.... Screams for about
  29.     60 feet, blows the 'charger, then coasts the rest of the way....
  30.     E.T... 10+ seconds at probably 150+..... You're gonna tell me that
  31.     he only made around 200 HP? (200x1000/10^3) before he blew up?

  33.     Suppose, I only have 3.89 gears, I manage to stay hooked up, but
  34.     only make it through the traps shortly after finding 4th.  So in
  35.     the traps, I'm only making 6500rpm using a redline of 7000.  I
  36.     certainly didnt use all my horsepower... and with a few changes
  37.     (maybe some higher gears, maybe a different shift point)...  I
  38.     could reduce the ET...  Now, I didnt change the engine at all...
  39.     But these horsepower numbers will change...

  41.     What about the guy that never gets hooked up.... Smoking tires all
  42.     the way down the track?

  44.     The formulas (and charts) that I saw and used (years ago) were
  45.     based on Top Speed through the traps....  Again, only an
  46.     approximation, and only a measure of what horsepower you were
  47.     using when you went through the traps... Unfortunately, I have no
  48.     idea where my copy of the formula is... sorry.... flames to
  49.     /dev/null...
