- Mick,

- Your use of straw bales as a target backstop is fine but, I really can't
- imagine using sheetrock as a target. If you don't want to purchase a foam
- or fiber target you might consider what I have used with success. I take a
- cardboard box that is 2-3'x2-3'x1-2' and fill the back appx. 4" solid with
- sheets of standard box cardboard, put a couple of sheets in the front of
- box, then fill the cavity with fiberglass insulation material. Pack the
- insulation as tightly as possible. I have shot my 60# compound into a
- target made like this hundreds of times using target and field points with
- aluminum arrows. If the front is shot away I will replace the front sheets
- of cardboard, rearrange the back sheets (if needed), and repack the
- fiberglass. Clearly, a target made of cardboard should not get wet. Even
- so, it is cheap and it works.
-
- IMHO, good targets are very cost efficient when the cost of re-fletching is
- considered.
