- A friend of mine is having oil pressure problems with the 2.2l engine in
- his '84 Aries. When he first starts the car, the oil pressure light stays
- on at idle and the engine is quite noisy for the first few minutes. Then,
- once the oils heats up (I guess), the light goes off, and the engine quiets
- down. I should emphasis that this takes a few minutes, not a few seconds
- for this to happen.
-
- He hasn't checked much yet - he suspected it might be a partially plugged
- oil filter, but an oil & filter change had no effect.
-
- My first thought was worn bearings, but I changed my mind deciding that if
- this were the case the reverse would happen - the problem would only appear
- after the engine warmed up and the oil thinned itself out. Guess #2 is a
- blockage like a partially plugged pickup tube that lets the oil pass a bit
- better once warm...
-
- Any other ideas/suggestions?
