  27. Often times, when a timing chain "breaks", it's not the chain, but the 
  28. camshaft gear. American V8s were/are notorious for putting in cam gears
  29. with NYLON teeth instead of steel. Supposedly, they made the engine 
  30. quieter than using a steel gear. I suppose they're right - the engine is 
  31. _real_ quiet when it's sitting on the side of the road with all the cam 
  32. gear teeth sitting in the oil pan. (yes, I speak from personal experience)

  34. I would recommend changing the timing chain & gears at about 100k if you
  35. have a nylon tooth gear. Change over to a steel gear, and you'll probably
  36. never have any more trouble.
