  14. I hope this is not a stupid question, but I have been wondering exactly
  15. where the term 4x4 (four by four) came from.

  17. I know that it is used to refer to 4WD vehicles in general as opposed
  18. to AWD vehicles; my Jimmy has 4x4 labeled on the side of it.

  20. Since I've also seen reference to 4x2 (usually denoting something like
  21. a 2WD pick up truck), I'm assuming that the second digit refers to "two"
  22. or "four" wheel drive.

  24. What does the first "four" stand for in 4x4???
