- The effectiveness of a wing or spoiler is quite dependent on the shape
- of the body. Some cars, you could put a picnic table on and it wouldn't
- make a difference. Others, just a small lip will make a noticeable
- change - and it can be effective as low as 35mph.

- For example, the '70-'73 Capris are very sensitive to crosswinds. Get
- some random gusts out there and you're liable to be pulled over as a
- suspected DWI. A mere three inch rear spoiler will stabilize the car
- quite well. Front spoilers appear to do nothing for that particular
- car.

- In another test, we used a '63 Chevy II, pretty close to a shoebox
- shape. No rear wing or spoiler we tested did anything we could notice,
- but a front air dam made a big difference in directional stability at
- 60mph, and on trips we observed a consistent 2 to 2.5 mpg increase over
- the non-dammed car.
