  25. War Officially Over in El Salvador
  26.  
  27. In El Salvador both the government of President Alfredo Cristiani,
  28. and the followers of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front
  29. (FMLN) celebrated what was seen as the official end of the civil
  30. war on Dec. 15. The joint official "Act of Reconciliation" took
  31. place at the International Fair in El Salvador, followed by
  32. separate celebrations by the two opposing forces. Various Central
  33. American presidents, UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali
  34. and Dan Quayle, outgoing US Vice President, attended the
  35. ceremony, along with Spanish Vice President Narcis Sierra, and
  36. Dominican Vice President Carlos Morales.

  38. Expected to attend the FMLN celebration were former Nicaraguan
  39. President Daniel Ortega, the head of Colombia's M-19, Navarro
  40. Wolf, and Rigoberta Menchu, Guatemalan activist and recent winner
