- By the time you all read this it may be over. The BBC and AP reported
- the Supreme Court had approved the expulsions. They reported that a caravan
- of buses had departed carrying the deportees into the security zone in
- Lebanon, and then split up. They also reported that the Lebanese government
- had given orders that the deportees were not to be allowed to enter Lebanon
- accross the border, which is where the Israelis are said to be taking them,
- the Bekaa Valley. The BBC is talking about the possibility that they will be
- stranded in a sort of limbo, not allowed into Israel or Lebanon, and it is
- very cold there are raining. There has been quite the stir on the Israeli
- left over the expulsions, and the Palestinian delegation is threatening to
- leave the peace talks. It remains to be seen if they will actually do so.
- The reaction of the Arab states has not yet come in yet. Bill Clinton has
- issued a sort of middle of the road statement in which he says he understands
- how the Israelis feel about Hammas but that he doesn't think it is worth
- disrupting the peace talks over (that is my interpretation, I haven't had
- a good look at the text yet).
