  22.    WASHINGTON, Dec. 16  -- The top officers of the United Mine 
  23. Workers of America (UMWA) will be inaugurated Tuesday,
  24. Dec. 22 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
  25.    The rank-and-file election last month of UMWA President Richard
  26. Trumka, Vice President Cecil Roberts and Secretary-Treasurer
  27. Jerry Jones was certified today by the UMWA's international
  28. tellers, the officials charged with conducting UMWA elections.
  29.    Trumka, Roberts and Jones were re-elected Nov. 10 with
  30. approximately 80 percent of the vote.  The three union leaders will
  31. be sworn in to serve new five-year terms at inaugural ceremonies at
  32. the Sheraton Station Square Hotel, 7 Station Square Dr., in
  33. Pittsburgh.  The program, which will begin at 11 a.m., is open to
  34. the public and the news media is invited to attend.
  35.    Trumka and Roberts will both begin their third terms as ranking
  36. UMWA international officers.  Jerry Jones, originally appointed to
  37. complete the unexpired term of retired Secretary-Treasurer John
  38. Banovic, now begins his first full term as one of the UMWA's top
  39. international officers.
  40.    Trumka, a native of Nemacolin, Pa., is currently leading the
  41. UMWA in contract negotiations with the U.S. coal industry.  This
  42. week the union leader is participating in President-elect Bill
  43. Clinton's Economic Conference in Little Rock, Ark.
  44.    In addition to Trumka, Roberts and Jones, other officers to be
  45. sworn in Tuesday include 10 union auditors and tellers who were
  46. also chosen in last month's election.  Clemmy F. Allen, Russell
  47. Stilwell, Bobby R. Webb, Donnie Samms and Bob Burchell will take
  48. the oath of office to serve as tellers.  Richard Kulick, Harold
  49. "Babe" Erdos, Freddie Maynard, Jim Stevenson and Hughie MacArthur
  50. will also be sworn in as auditors.  Like Trumka, Roberts and Jones,
  51. the auditors and tellers were elected to five-year terms of office.
  52.    The UMWA has approximately 200,000 members throughout the
  53. United States and Canada.
