  12. ...so, here I am, finally getting around to building gcc becuase  we only
  13. 'accidentally' had a compiler before a recent upgrade [aren't vendors GREAT] 
  14. ...I know, I know -- bad joe, don't put off building Important Tools again...

  16. But the question is, *shouldn't* I be able to build the Things I Need given
  17.     - kernel bootstraps
  18.     - leftover header files
  19.     - leftover libraries
  20.  
  21. Previously, I was stopped by only having as1 [and no as0] in the bootstrap
  22. zone... now, after Yet Another Upgrade, I seem to have a happy 'strapping cc,
  23. and I get thru the gcc build until it begs for bison....so I grab the bison 
  24. sources and find the header files filled with #idents...so I comment ALL of 
  25. them out, and die on:
  26. # make
  27.         cc -c -g   -I./../include LR0.c
  28. cc: Error: ANSI C is not installed. (could not find /usr/lib/accom)
  29. *** Error code 1

  31. ...sigh.  For those who tuned in late, or hate to read subj/summaries, this is
  32. on a silly-graph 4d/30, upgraded from irix3.3.2 to 4.0.1 and now to 4.0.5. NO
  33. 'developer's option' -- we had bits and pieces leftover from a vendor's
  34. boo-boo, misleading me to think that I was in the clear as far as a development
  35. environment went...[grumble]

  37. As usual, simply more weight on the side of free software....
