- Your problem is because of a limitation in the PC's bios that doesnt allow
- booting on disks of >1024 cyls.
-
- To get round this get to the boot: prompt using the N1 disk.
- Now type in "hd(40)unix root=hd(40) swap=hd(41) pipe=hd(40)"
-
- The boot line should now read :
-
- boot: hd(40)unix root=hd(40) swap=hd(41) pipe=hd(40)
-
- Hit return. You should now have booted off the hard disk. Now use dparam
- to change the hard disk parameters. The syntax of dparam is as follows :
-
- dparam /dev/rhd0a
-
- This will bring back the current parameters of the hard disk.
- Now retype the dparam command but with the parameters this time. Change
- the first parameter entry to 1024.
-
- Now shutdown and reboot. You should now be able to boot of the hard disk.
-
- ( Sorry to be a bit terse with the dparam command. I would advise you look
- at the dparam man entry first. )
-
-
- By the way, don't think that by doing this you will lose some of the disk
- capacity, because you won't.
