  22. We don't create entries in /dev for those normally, as we never
  23. use them and creating all possible partitions for all disk devices
  24. uses up just about all the inodes on /.  The normally created
  25. partitions are 0,1,6,7,8 (vh), and 10 (vol).  You could use 7,
  26. but you would still need one more, so you will have to make the
  27. extra devices in /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk.  See /dev/MAKEDEV (search
  28. for dsk) for how to figure out the minor numbers for these partitions.

  30. Old versions of IRIX would trash those devices on new s/w installs
  31. and upgrades, but current versions no longer have this problem.
