- True enough.
-
- But, (at least the way I interpretted the original post), why .. oh why
- are plain EPROM cards so difficult to find.
-
- To keep all my executable goodies, and data files, and other pearls of
- wisdom :-). I dont ever need to erase, so it would be good to save some
- money. At least Flash EPROM chips are more expensive than plain EPROM
- in plastic DIPS ... which despite the 'E' are not erasable. :-) These
- chips in their DIP incarnation are often called ZTAT-ROMs, for
- Zero Turn Around Time ROMS, since they combine the low cost of mask
- programmed ROMs with the home-programmability of EPROMs.
-
- Anyone used any memory cards which are write-once only and are
- cheaper ?
-
- While we are on memory add ons, has anyone here experience with
- the KittyHawk ?
-
- Also, I believe the SunDisk 20 MB card uses the PCMCIA-ATA standard
- which is an emulation of IDE. Have people here actually used the
- 20 MB card on the hp95lx in particular ? Did you have to install
- some software into the hp95lx at install time ... or did you
- just plug in the card and some magic execute the drivers from the
- card ? (you'd have needed to reboot for this to occur ... I guess ?)
-
- If this I just learnt is true, I guess it should be pretty easy
- to attach a garden variety IDE hard drive to the hp95lx. Compact
- archive storage to dump into each evening. And these IDE drives
- can be carried around too. And plenty cheaper when you want Gigabytes
- than any memory cards I can forsee. (Of course, I'll have to be
- tethered to a power outlet to use the BigDisk, but thats OK price
- for me to pay for Gigabytes.) If this is feasible, I'd like to
- give it a try with my 95, with anyone who might also be interested.
