  14. Well, I just upgraded to NeXTSTEP 3.0 and am enjoying RenderMan
  15. in particular immensely.  However, for some reason, when I try
  16. to do photoreal renderering from the 3DKit (ie, using an N3DRenderPanel),
  17. it cannot find any renderers.  /usr/prman/prman seems to work fine.

  19. The release notes admit the possibility of this sort of problem
  20. (near the end of the list of known bugs in N3DKit.rtf), by saying:

  22. > If you change the name of your host by editing /etc/hostconfig
  23. > by hand, the rendering machinery won't be able to find it.  Local
  24. > rendering will not work.  If you change the name of your host using 
  25. > HostManager.app, then you have to further edit the netinfo database 
  26. > in the . domain so your host has localhost as an alias.

  28. However, as far as I can tell, my host does have localhost as an alias,
  29. ("nidump hosts ." ==> "192.42.172.253  skye localhost", where "skye"
  30. is the name of my machine.) and other than that, the comment does not
  31. propose a solution.
