- Hi. For those in a similar bind, I thought I'd post how I got Emacs3.0
- running on my standalone NeXT. (Remember, I have a standalone with
- boot loaded SLIP daemon; but the SLIP line is brought up/down manually.)
- The problem was that, to make use of SLIP, I set my hostname to "mccube".
- I thought that meant putting "mccube" in /etc/hostconfig and /etc/hosts
- with my domain (tucson.az.us) in /etc/resolv.conf. (The INETADDR entry
- in hostconfig would be NeXT's default value.) As SLIP has it's own
- config file, these changes in /etc seemed enough. Not so. What I needed
- to do (at least for Emacs - and maybe others?) was to define "mccube"
- using HostManager (domain is "/", IP address = NeXT's default value).
- Pretty easy. Now Emacs3.0 works fine.

- Thanks to all who sent advice. "netters" are a great resource.
