- OK. Here we go. Just when I thought I had managed to escape the
- nasty world of those "laughable lovable PeeCee's", I've got my
- first question about NeXTSTEP 486 hardware compatibility from one of the
- staff here.
-
- Has anyone heard the word on Local Bus graphics card support for NS486?
-
- >Adapters designed for EISA based PC's are available (such as Compaq QVision
- >1024/E and ATI Graphics Ultra Pro) or being developed, these are currently
- >being evaluated for performance and may provide an easy upgrade for existing
- >EISA PC's.
-
- Is all I have from the NS486 fact sheet that was released in October.
- Specifically, I want to know about the "Viper" local bus card. It is
- supposed to be comparable to (but faster than) the ATI GUP.
-
- The person who asked the question has located a 486-DX2 66 local bus
- machine with a Viper card, 200MB IDE drive, 8MB and a 17inch 1280-1024
- monitor for $2995. Slap some more RAM and another drive in the box
- and you'd have a color machine for about $4000. He's wanting to
- buy this now (for tax reasons) specifically to run NeXTSTEP. Its
- funny how times change.
-
- If anyone has seen the "NeXTSTEP 486 Hardware Compatibility Guide"
- please drop me a line.
-
- Thanks!
