  12. I have a couple of questions about OnLocation.
  13.  
  14.    I have been trying to find a nice indexer/scanning program for a
  15. collection of text files and notes that I have on disk.  The 
  16. majority of the files are in MS-Word 5.0 format, although some
  17. are various text files I ftped from Gutenberg.  I posted a request
  18. for programs that could do nice fast searches and the only replies
  19. I recieve dealt with Gopher and OnLocation.
  20.    I am using Gopher right now, but it is a pain to select new 
  21. folders to scan.  I have to go to a window and delete the current
  22. folders being scanned and then move around my hard drive to 
  23. select the new files.  Gopher also doesn't index files.  It does
  24. a linear scan and thus is relatively slow.
  25.    OnLocation apparently indexs and is quite fast, but doesn't allow
  26. complex searches.  I have no idea how easy it is to select the files
  27. to scan with OnLocation.  This has kept me from purchasing OnLocation.
  28. I was looking at the documentation for BBEdit though, and it will
  29. do full grep searches using the OnLocation index engine.  Does anyone
  30. know how this is done?  If using the engine is easy or only a matter
  31. of apple-events, I may just get OnLocation and write a little scanning
  32. program that sends open AE to MS-word.
  33.    Talking about MS-Word, what AE does it respond to?  I know it handles
  34. the standard Finder-suite.  Is there a way to go to a specific place
  35. in a file?  ie. I want to find a word with the OL engine, and then
  36. have MS-Word open the file with the cursor at that word.
