- I think others might be interested in what I found so I give a response:

- a) AWK which is a pattern scanning and processing language (by Aho,
- Kerningham, Weinberger) is available as GNU implementation (GNU = GNU is
- not Un*X). And although GNU does not directly support Apple products (due
- to the "look and feel lawsuits") some hacker used the free source code and
- ported it to the Macintosh.
- Look for MacGAWK (Mac GNU-AWK).

- b) Sad to say that X-Archie (a very fast and good archie client for
- UniX/X-windows machines) is not available for the Mac. But there is a beta
- release of a shareware archie-client.
