  26. When the Mac is booting, it first checks the sound level. If it is set to 0,
  27. it will play at full volume. That's true for all Macs, and it explains why
  28. the bootup sound is so loud.

  30. If your games play louder, that's a problem with the games themselves. Most
  31. games let you turn sound off completely.

  33. One way to fix all the problems is to plug in a headphone set into the sound
  34. output of your Mac. This will kill all sound (even the bootup sound) on your
  35. Mac internal speaker. If you just want to get rid of all sound you can also
  36. buy a cheap headphone plug, the one that converts from a small plug into a
  37. larger one (sorry, I don't know the word for it in english). The Mac will
  38. stop sound through the internal speaker as soon as you plug anything into
  39. the speaker output, even if there are no headphones connected.
