- Yes and no. PC is not faster than a Mac for the same speed and similar model
- CPU when running similar user interface, like Macintosh system software and
- MS-Windows applications launcher. However, PC _is_ faster than Mac when running
- bare MS-DOS, especially in calculations, because of lack of the overhead for
- the slow screen redraw, system code overhead (SANE, Stardand Apple Num.
- Environment), etc. PC is a lower technology, so it is easy to do things fast
- when there is a hardware standard with addressing directly to the coprocessor
- or writing directly to screen pixels. But, if one has to write a driver for
- _every_ possible screen his program to run under bare MS-DOS, and the same
- for the keyboard, it is not pleasant. That's the reason why I moved to Mac.
-
- The other story is that actually, the PC is really faster than a Mac you buy
- for the same price. No Mac can compete with a 66 MHz 486. I bought a Quadra,
- anyway, but there are people to whom raw performance is more important than
- System 7. If one has to justify the hardware expense by amount of heavy
- calculus, it would be difficult to buy a Mac.

- I think facts are there, and no love can change them.
- I believe Apple is aware of this. Let's hope Motorola is not indifferent,
- Intel is moving very fast now. Cheap powerful Macs would be fine, I will
- buy one as soon as they appear.
-
- Happy Holidays to Mac lovers.
