- I just put System 7.0.1 plus Tuner on my Mac II.
-
- I purchased a MC68881 PMMU for $89 quite some time ago in anticipation
- of this event. I don't remember the dealer. You don't really need
- it, though, unless you need virtual memory.
-
- I like the features of System 7, although it seems to drag the speed
- down considerably, although primarily in the Finder (e.g., scrolling
- through a huge pile of icons is downright painful.) I've noticed
- that keeping my Mac in 16 color mode makes life almost livable. Why
- this sudden increase in processor consumption? Is there anything I
- can do about it?
-
- I'm also using Mode32. However, I'm unsure as to whether or not I
- should be in 24-bit or 32-bit addressing mode. As far as I can tell,
- the only advantage to 32-bit is the ability to use over 13mb of virtual
- or 8mb of real memory. Does it have any other advantages?
-
- I managed to get Sys 7.0.1 on by segmenting the 1400k image files and
- copying them to my hard drive (I don't have a FDHD.) I used MountImage
- to mount them as disks and installed that way.
