- Just read another article (In MaxcWeek) bashing the vx again.
-
- This one came up with three basic problems.
-
- 1) Mono sound - The article claims during the playback of stereo digital
- sounds (not audio CDs) only one channel is heard. The two channels are not
- mixed as I would have expected. Can this be true? Do Mac games or MIDI
- software packages or other software packages take advantage of the stereo
- capability of the older Macs? Are we really losing something or is this a
- feature that was never really exploited?
-
- 2) MIDI Interface - Reportedly there is a problem with large data transfers
- over the MIDI port. No details were given. Sure would be nice if someone
- could clarify this.
-
- 3) Hard Disk data transfer rate - The article basically said the sustained
- Hard Disk transfer rate was 1.5 Megabits/sec. They comapred it to you guessed
- it the ci which was 1.8 Megabits/sec. Anyone know why this would be the
- case? Is it because the bus is running at a rate lower clock rate than the
- CPU?
-
- I have a vx with cd rom drive on order and I am having second thoughts again
- about my choice.
