- On the Performa 600 debate...personally, I cannot find any other model in
- Apple's product line which best suits my needs (and probably those of MANY)
- for such a fantastic price. I think its best to compare the P600 sin CD to
- the IIsi. A IIsi 5/160 (which is a new configuration) can be found on the
- street at $1999...same for a Performa 600. HOWEVER, the Performa has THREE
- NuBus slots, an upgrade path, an accelerator card slot, a large power
- supply, that great startup beep (okay, I'm scrounging...<grin>), plus the
- internal drive bay (which I could actually care less about). The Performa
- 600 also comes with the extended keyboard. Its a MUCH better value than a
- IIsi. HOWEVER, compared to a IIci which still beats a Performa 600 in
- performance, its a tie, really over which one to choose. I'd still go
- performa for money reasons! :-)
-
- On its case style: I actually think its pretty cool. Granted, Apple could
- have beziered the sides and rounded it a bit, but on the whole I think its
- a neat design. I agree that Apple used metal instead of plastic for two
- reasons:
- 1) cheaper
- 2) no need for 'spray on ELF shielding'
- 3) cheaper
- 4) stronger
- 5) cheaper
- 6) construction molding system lasts longer
- 7) more environmentally friendly
- 8) and finally....cheaper.
