- Subject: Re: New LC: faster than 25MHz?
- Lines: 26
-
- I read in the Mac the Knife column of MacWeek that the rumoured LCIII
- (sorry travis) might be faster than the 25MHz that's been talked about
- so far -- any ideas?
-
- Won't this new LC along with the Centris machines squeeze out the IIvx?
- If the LC is any faster than 25, it's going to beat the IIvx for
- performance, and the rumoured price is pretty low. Either the new lc
- is going to be more expensive than projected, or the IIvx/vi are going
- to drop considerably, like 25%...opinions on how the new lineup will
- shape up pricewise, where adjustments will have to take place?

- There are a few things that could slow down the new LC. The current LC's have
- 16 bit data path. A 33MHz machine probably wouldn't be as fast as the ][vx if
- it had a 16bit data path. There are also things to consider like will it have
- a cache, will it have an FPU, what will the external bus speed be?? I don't
- think the new LC will be of any threat to the sales of the ][vx. That
- wouldn't be too bright from a marketing standpoint. We'll just have to wait
- and see. TTYL, Joe
