- I own a Magic Tape 525 tape device (sold by Mac Products USA) which
- has the Wangtek 5525ES mechanism. The HDT Prober program tells me that
- the unit has SCSI Rev7. The device has performed flawlessly for me
- since I purchased it. I use Retrospect version 1.3A.
-
- Up until today I was running System 7.1 on my trusty Macintosh II and
- had no problems with the unit. This is and was the only device
- attached to the external SCSI port of my machine. I sold the Mac II
- and replaced it with a Quadra 700/230. The internal hard disk has ID
- 0. The tape drive has ID 1. I am running system 7.1 on the Quadra.
-
- Retrospect hangs whenever it is invoked. It does not matter whether I
- have the 040 cache enabled. Also, the tape drive seems to make a new
- clicking sound when a tape is dropped in. Are there known problems
- with this combination of hardware and software? I'll start to call
- vendors on Monday morning - I thought that I'd appeal to the wisdom of
- the net in advance.
-
- Because the drive has performed well for me, I though nothing of
- backing up the hard drive from my old Mac II before nuking it and
- selling it. It is a bit distressing, to say the least, to be unable
- to retrieve my information to my new high-flying but basically empty
- machine.
