- I am currently building up a database of computer equipment here at
- our site, to be used to track the status of various pieces of
- mainframe and workstation hardware. I would like to organize this in
- several seperate databases, with a unique ID for each individual piece
- of equipment linking the records across databases. Currently I am
- using Excel v4.0 to store the data, but it is apparent that this is
- *not* an acceptable solution.
-
- I have had experience doing professional database programming for both
- DBase IV and FoxPro, both running on IBM PCs. Although I am familiar
- with Macs (I am the system manager for our group), I am not at all
- familiar with the different databases available for them.
-
- I would prefer a relational or object-oriented database program.
- Could you provide me with suggestions as to which database program is
- best for my needs? I would appreciate discussions of strengths and
- weaknesses of the database program. Otherwise, could you point me to
- a place to look for this information?
-
- Please send all responses to me at lishka@dxcern.cern.ch. I will
- write up and post a summary if there is interest.
