- Here's some info, from PC Week, Nov 23, 92:
-
- "...Reply's TurboProcessor System Upgrade line of user-configurable
- boards offers users a choice of IBM's 25MHz 386SLC or 25/50 486SLC2
- processors or Intel Corp.'s 33MHz 486SX or 33/66MHz 486DX2 CPUs.
- The boards replace the system boards that are available on the PS/2
- Model 50, 50Z, 55SX, 60, 70 and 80. Prices range from $495 for the 25MHz
- 386SLC upgrade kit for the PS/2 50 or 50Z to $1295 for the 33/66 MHz
- 486DX2 replacement for the PS/2 60 or 80.
- <quotes from company officials deleted>
- The boards support up to 128M bytes of memory, 1024x768 resolution and
- 256 colors; they include 1M byte of video memory, a GUI accelerator chip
- to speed access to graphical menu, an AT IDE interface and the
- MicroChannel IDE and SCSI interfaces.
- The boards also include and enhanced parallel port interface, which
- provides bidirectional, direct-memory access for high-speed data
- transfers between PS/2s and intelligent peripherals.
- Shipments of the boards are slated to begin Dec.1, but Reply will take
- orders directly before that, officials said."
-
- For a PS/2 60 owner (me), that might be $600 for a 386SLC MB. This is
- about the same one would pay for a combo of IBM's 486SLC2 upgrade and
- ATI's 8514/A video board. The ATI has OS/2 drivers (not seamless
- though), the accelerator Reply uses might not. Then again, a motherboard
- designed for 386SLC might perform better than the 286-10 MB with a
- 486SLC2. And IDE/SCSI is definately better than ST506 I currently have.
