  13. I'd like to conduct a survey on usenet about end-users' evaluation of various
  14. windows graphics accelaration cards. Please consider including the following
  15. inofrmation in your reply via private e-mail to me:

  17. 1. Card brand + model name/number. Price you paid if purchased within the past
  18. three months (in my judgement, the change in pricing is too fast for the info
  19. past three-month old to be meaningful). (ATI Graphics Ultra, etc, etc)
  20. 2. Processor type. (S3, TI48020, etc)
  21. 3. The primary resolution you use with it. (800x600x93847292347458color, etc)
  22. 4. The primary type of work you do with windows. (Word processing, CAD, etc)
  23. 5. Of course, your opinion. (Brief or verbose, acclaimation or cursing)

  26. weeks, depending on the amout of reply/my schedule.

  28. For the inquiring minds: I'm doing this because 1) I'm thinking of getting one
  29. myself  2) The market is very confusing  3) Such a survey could of some value
  30. to the general window-user community  4) It might even be fun to run such a 
  31. survey.

  33. For the caring minds: My machines is a 386sx 16MHz/Interlaced SVGA monitor. 
  34. Yeah, I know. I'm reasonalby sure that the TVGA 8900a/1Mb SVGA card is one of
  35. the bottlenecks (if not the most limiting) when running in 800x600x256colors
  36. mode, which is the primary mode I'd like to run. But I don't know what kind of
  37. acceleration cards can match such a platform, yet without being a overkill.
  38. It may sounds like asking for too much. But I'd really appreciate whatever
  39. suggestion/advice you care to make.

  41. For benchmark programmers: Why are you guys still so focused on calculating
  42. bps about bit-blitting/linedrawing/polyfilling/etc/etc while it doesn't mean a
  43. thing to anyone except cs professors researching in computer graphics? Worse
  44. yet, the correlation between these numbers and real-world performance is very
  45. complicated, if not ill-defined. Pleeeeez, give us something that makes sense!
  46. IMO. wintach from Texas Instrument serves a good purpose for laymen, despite
  47. the fact that it quietly promotes their own chips.
