- I've owned an A500 (Workbench1.2), upgraded it to Workbench1.3, then
- upgraded the ROMs and software to Workbench2.04, and now my brother
- owns an A600HD. I'm a hardened Amiga fan, having owned one for over
- three years, but I have to say that OS/2 (1.3) is more stable then
- AmigaDOS v1.x or v2.x. I've been developing software on OS/2 for the
- last three months, and although many programs have crasshed within it,
- OS/2 itself hasn't crashed once; however I've had to reboot several
- times because the memory-swapping goes beserk (I have 10Mb RAM and
- about a 6Mb swap file).
-
- Although I love using the Amiga, I have to say it isn't as stable,
- but then it's worth remembering that OS/2 is designed for more
- powerful machines (can you imagine it running on an 8086?) and so can
- take advantage of things such as crash protection without unduly
- slowing down the machine.
-
- However, with the new breed of Amigas coming out (A600, A1200, A4000
- and, I suspect, a 68030-based middle-of-the-range machine -
- A1600/1800/2200/2400?), I think we should finally see the Amiga for
- what it is - not just a games machine, but a highly potent graphics and
- sound machine at a good price. Remember, the A4000 at top whack can
- knock the fastest 486 for six (and more).
-
- Finally, does anyone know anything about the new machine(s)? Any
- details/rumours would be appreciated as I will buy one as soon as it
- comes out, providing it has the new sound chips, 68030 processor, the
- new graphics chips and Zorro-II compatible slots. So come on
- Commodore-Amiga! Let's have it!
