  27.  Well, I just want to know if you're comparing it to Windows here. If so,
  28.  I'm afraid you should take a second look at Windows. Windows is a GUI
  29.  (graphical user interface) that runs on top of DOS. It does not have
  30.  protected memory or any of the other benefits that most OSes have 
  31.  (the Mac doesn't either), like SunOS or OS/2.

  36.  I just want to point out that Windows, although it may be an OS of
  37.  sorts (virtual memory is the only thing that warrants this claim), is
  38.  not a good OS at all. There is no memory protection! It's totally
  39.  ridiculous that one crash actually brings down the system. This
  40.  is my main gripe about the MacOS as well - so don't think I'm just
  41.  picking on Windows.

  46.  Wait, and they don't for the Macintosh? If you're taking about
  47.  Sound Blaster - sorry, but most people have more serious things to do 
  48.  with their Macs than play "Wing Commander II" (BTW - don't forget that
  49.  DOS machines have the biggest game market out there. Don't think people
  50.  are just buying them for BUSINESS....). Are you talking about Ether cards?
  51.  $150. SCSI cards .. oh, that's right - that's built into the Macintosh :)
  52.  Um... mouse cards? oh -- that's also built into the Mac. Video cards? Well,
  53.  unless you need more than 16-bit graphics (IIvx), which 95% of people
  54.  DON'T anyway, you won't need one of those for the Mac, either.

  58.  Good point. Motorola had a hard time producing the 040 at first, so there
  59.  weren't a whole lot off of the assembly line right away. As far as
  60.  cutting the data busses in half, like Intel does for the 486sx, 386sx, etc,
  61.  why does make Intel more advanced with product design. Motoroller is working
  62.  on the PowerChip as much as Intel is working on the P5, I'm sure.

  68.  I could say the same thing : why have all of the MS-DOS vendors (Lotus,
  69.  WordPerfect) moved to the Macintosh, NeXT, Suns, SGIs, etc? I guess
  70.  it's because the DOS machines are goin' nowhere :)

  75.  Heh. Probably because the operators are too short-sighted to figure
  76.  out how to link them together - so people can ACTUALLY DO THEIR WORK
  77.  BETWEEN THE TWO (yes, it can be done!). So people who have always had
  78.  their work on the PCs stay there because there isn't an effort to try
  79.  to even out the usage in the lab (by buying WordPerfect/Mac, Lotus123/Mac)
