- In a 486 chip-set comparisson in the c't (German magazine), the author claimed
- that it is possible for a well designed 33MHz 486DX motherboard to run without
- external cache. The reason that even 25MHz 486s have external caches is a)
- mainly for marketing reasons and b) because they are not well designed. The
- 33MHz 486 will run slower, but not more than at most 10% but would be
- significantly cheaper.
