- Hi folks,
-
- i've had some problems with my system since i've bought it:
-
- - Norton SpeedDisk reports verify errors randomly during disk
- defragmentation
- - Linux hangs randomly (or at least pseudo-randomly :-)
- in tetris, gcc,....
-
- But these problems went away when i switched off my 2nd level cache.
- I do not want to let it off (because the 256k will speed up the board
- noticable).
-
- I wonder if this problem is results of DMA. Each of the above mentioned
- programs do DMA in probably cached regions of memory. I have the suspicion
- that the DMA changes the RAM but doesn't mark the cache as dirty.
-
- Any ideas????
-
- My system consists of
- - 486 50MHz (no DX-2)
- - 16 MB RAM
- - 256 k 2nd level cache
- - OPTi chipset
- - board manufacturer Shuttle
- - board type HOT403H
- - an IDE combi controller made by Timex
-
- I've heard that this board isn't that exotical so i wonder if anybody has
- the same problem.
-
- Please HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
- Thanks....
