  14. i've had some problems with my system since i've bought it:

  16. - Norton SpeedDisk reports verify errors randomly during disk
  17.   defragmentation
  18. - Linux hangs randomly (or at least pseudo-randomly :-)
  19.   in tetris, gcc,....

  21. But these problems went away when i switched off my 2nd level cache.
  22. I do not want to let it off (because the 256k will speed up the board
  23. noticable).

  25. I wonder if this problem is results of DMA. Each of the above mentioned
  26. programs do DMA in probably cached regions of memory. I have the suspicion
  27. that the DMA changes the RAM but doesn't mark the cache as dirty.

  32. - 486 50MHz (no DX-2)
  33. - 16 MB RAM
  34. - 256 k 2nd level cache
  35. - OPTi chipset
  36. - board manufacturer Shuttle
  37. - board type HOT403H
  38. - an IDE combi controller made by Timex

  40. I've heard that this board isn't that exotical so i wonder if anybody has
  41. the same problem.
